XMUM Hosts Huawei Day to Promote ICT Learning and Industry Engagement

Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) hosted Huawei Day – Huawei Intelligent World 2035 on 9 June 2026 at the Tan Hua Choon Auditorium Hall, welcoming approximately 1,000 participants.

Organised by the School of Computing and Data Science (SCDS) and sponsored by Huawei Technologies, the event highlighted XMUM's collaboration with Huawei through the Huawei ICT Academy. It also marked XMUM's second consecutive Outstanding Huawei ICT Academy Award, recognizing the University's efforts in ICT education, industry collaboration, and talent development.

In her opening address, Assistant President and Director of the Research and Postgraduate Centre, Prof. Wang Hui-Qiong, emphasized the importance of academia-industry collaboration in driving innovation. She encouraged students to become creators and innovators who can use technology to make a positive impact on society.

SCDS Deputy Dean Dr. Tee Sim Hui shared the development of the Huawei ICT Academy at XMUM, which has expanded from 30 active students in September 2024 to more than 1,000 active learners today. He also congratulated XMUM students Meng Zijian, Wai Pui Shan, Wong Wan Ning, Wu Haoren, Li Haocong, and Ge Hanwen, who progressed from National Grand Prize winners to securing Third Prize at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 Asia-Pacific (APAC) Finals.

A key highlight of the event was the Huawei Intelligent World 2035 sharing sessions presented by experts from Huawei Malaysia. Mr. Muhammad Aiman bin Zakaria, Government Relations Manager, introduced Huawei's technology ecosystem, covering connectivity, cloud computing, smart energy, electric vehicle charging solutions, and the TECH4ALL digital inclusion initiative. Ms. Delea Tan, Talent Ecosystem Manager, shared insights on employability, interdisciplinary skills, and international ICT competition opportunities. Ms. Hillary Bong, Data Protection Officer, discussed cybersecurity and AI, including threat detection, deepfakes, and data poisoning.

The programme concluded with career exhibition booths hosted by Huawei's industry partners, where students explored career opportunities and submitted their resumes.
